Medical Insurance

Coverage for full-time employees and employees assigned to work more than 30 hours per week becomes effective on the first day of employment with Simpson University. Each eligible employee will be covered under the plan.

The Simpson University plan is a partially self-funded plan administered by Health Comp Administrators. The plan pays for covered items including office visits to any Anthem Blue Cross Prudent Buyer PPO network provider with a $25 office visit co-payment; up to 18 visits per year to network chiropractors. During the annual open enrollment in September, InterWest Insurance Services (broker) will provide full-time employees a Simpson University benefits plan summary booklet that contains further summarized plan details.

Dental Insurance

Dental coverage for full-time employees and employees assigned to work more than 30 hours per week becomes effective on the first day of employment with Simpson University. Simpson University self-funds this dental program and it is administrated by HealthComp. There is an annual plan year deductible of $50 per person, $150 per family. Preventative services are paid at 100% and basic services are paid at 80% of usual and customary charges. Major services (i.e. bridges, crowns, inlays and dentures) are paid at 50%. The maximum amount paid per year is $1500 per person. Orthodontic services are available for children under 19 years of age. The maximum lifetime amount is $1000.

Waiver of Benefits

If an employee has access to medical and/or dental benefits provided by a source other than Simpson University, Simpson will reimburse $100 per month for medical and $25 per month for dental. Proof of insurance must be provided along with a completed Group Enrollment/Change Form. Waivers will need to be renewed during the open enrollment period of September 1-September 30 of each year (or at a qualifying event). An employee may add benefits anytime during the year with the occurrence of a qualifying event. A qualifying event is defined as a loss of benefits due to the death of a spouse or dependent, or termination of a spouse's employment, adoption or birth of a child.

Life

Paid for by Simpson University and effective on the date of hire for full time employees, this benefit pays 2.5 times annual earnings.

AD&D

Paid for by Simpson University and effective on the date of hire for full time employees, this benefit pays 2.5 times annual earnings.

LTD

Paid for by Simpson University and effective on the date of hire for full time employees, this benefit pays 66 2/3% of the first $5,000 of pre-disability earnings.

Retirement

Retirement benefits are available to all employees on either April 1st or October 1st (whichever comes first) following their date of hire. For full time employees only, Simpson University will contribute 1% automatically and match up to 4%. Simpson University allows employees to choose one of two brokers for their retirement services: Catherine Lathrop-Cummings, Wells Fargo Advisors, or David VanDyke, Merrill Lynch.

Flexible Spending Account

Flexible Spending Account (FSA) - Pacific Benefits administers pre-tax payroll deductions at any amount established by the employee at their date of hire and every October 1st thereafter. These deductions can be requested for medical expenses, medical premium contributions, or dependent care expenses. The employee may obtain those monies for any out of pocket medical, dental or optical expenses that are not reimbursable by another source.

Supplemental Insurance

AFLAC sells and administers supplemental insurance plans available to our employees. These plans include cancer, intensive care, disability and accident insurance and the employee pays for the cost. Workers Compensation

Paid for by Simpson University for all employees, this benefit covers medical expenses for work-related illnesses or injuries. All injuries, however minor, must be reported to the Human Resources office the day of the injury. Specific treatment and reporting procedures must be followed.

Social Security System

Generally, all employees of the University are required by law to pay into the Social Security System. For affected employees, a deduction will be made from employee earnings for this purpose, and the University will make payments to the System on behalf of each employee.

Employee Assistance Program

Services of the Simpson Community Counseling Center are available at no charge to all employees. All meetings with the EAP staff members are confidential. Contact must be initiated by the employee, although supervisors can encourage employees to seek counsel.

COBRA

In accordance with Public Law 99-272, Title X, Simpson University offers an extension of health coverage to all full time employees whose employment is terminated for any reason other than gross misconduct. New employees will receive preliminary information shortly after their date of hire. Upon termination of employment, a letter detailing available benefits will be sent.

Other Benefits

  • EDTG Tuition: Full time Simpson University staff members and their legal dependents and spouses are eligible for discounts up to the cost of full time tuition for both fall and spring semesters. For EDTG qualifying criteria, please review your faculty or staff handbook. For further information contact the Human Resources Director.
  • Meals: Each semester, full time faculty and staff are welcome to enjoy 15 free meals in the dining center. Part time faculty and staff are welcome to enjoy 10 free meals in the dining center. Accounts are automatically credited and ID cards are necessary to redeem meals.
  • Bookstore: Employees of the University are entitled to a 10% discount off of merchandise at the bookstore.
