09.02.2011

REDDING, Calif. – Simpson University Provost Dr. Stanley Clark has appointed Dr. Rich Brown as the interim dean of the A.W. Tozer Theological Seminary. Dr. Brown has served as vice president for student development since 2006 and will continue to provide that department with leadership.

"Dr. Brown understands theological education and the Tozer culture, and in light of his nine years of leadership of the Simpson Graduate School of Ministry, he is on familiar ground," said Dr. Clark. "I am grateful for his willingness to take on this added responsibility, and am certain he will lead with wisdom and grace during this transitional phase."

In his role as interim dean, Dr. Brown will provide administrative oversight for all areas of the seminary, including curriculum, policies, personnel matters, and external relations.

"It is a privilege for me to assume the responsibilities of interim Dean of A.W. Tozer Theological Seminary," said Dr. Brown. "My ministry experience in the church gives me a love for the students in this program and my years in Christian higher education give me an understanding of the world of academics. The example Tozer set for us of his love for Jesus, his love for the church and his love for learning, gives me an appreciation for the Tozer Seminary focus. I look forward to serving the Tozer staff and student community."

In his 18 years with Simpson University, Dr. Brown's leadership positions include vice president for spiritual formation, dean of Simpson Graduate School of Ministry and director of pastoral ministry. Prior to coming to Simpson, he pastored Christian and Missionary Alliance churches in Orlando, Fla., Menomonie, Wis., Arlington, Va., and Shell Lake, Wis. He is the author of Restoring the Vow of Stability (Christian Publications, 1993), Trusting God With the Rest of Your Life (Crossover Publications, 2011) and various writings in publications including Alliance Life.

Dr. Brown holds a B.A. in history from Crown College and an M.A. in Christian education, M.Div. and D. Min. from Bethel Theological Seminary.
