REDDING, Calif. - Nearly 1400 Shasta County kindergarten students are expected to visit the Simpson University campus on Friday, May 12, as part of the annual KinderCollege Day event.
The goal of KinderCollege Day is to introduce students to the idea of post high school education and career possibilities early in their academic careers, and to let parents and teachers know it is never too early to discuss those possibilities with children.
Groups of approximately 25 students will rotate through interactive career stations from a variety of organizations and programs, including the Shasta County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Team, Caltrans, Haven Humane, Redding Electric Utility, the Redding Fire Department, Redding Bank of Commerce and CHP.
“Shasta County KinderCollege Day is an interactive day filled with engaging presenters that are there to help Kindergartners learn more about their profession, and the education needed for their career,” said Terri Hinton of College OPTIONS.
The event will take place from 9:45 a.m. to noon and is sponsored by College OPTIONS, First 5 Shasta, Redding Bank of Commerce, ScholarShare California’s 529 Savings Plan, Simpson University, The McConnell Foundation, and many local businesses. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children. There will be 60 different Kindergarten classes participating in the event.
