Simpson University for Seniors Accepting Students for September Classes
For Immediate Release
REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University for Seniors is offering two courses in September for adults of any age.
The non-credit, no-homework classes, which begin Sept. 8, are taught on Simpson’s campus by university professors and professionals in their field of expertise. Classes meet from 10:20 to 11:20 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The following courses are being offered:
10:20-11:20 a.m. – Surprised by Luther: His Life and Legacy on the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. This course offers a survey of Martin Luther’s formative years, his deep spiritual trials in the Augustinian monastery, and forgotten content of the so-called Ninety-Five Theses. Focus will be given to some of his themes bearing contemporary relevance: suffering and power, law and gospel, interpretations of baptism and communion. Attendees will view and discuss the film “Luther,” concluding with a sobering exposé of his troubling Anti-Semitism and its place in the larger story of Euro-American racism. Presenter: Craig Slane
11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. – Fire and Ice. This course is an overview of the geography and physical geology of Northern California. Presenter: Don Claspill
Two courses are offered each month through April. The cost is $95 per person, per course, or $145 for couples registering for the same course. Register online with a credit card at simpsonu.edu/seniorschool.
