Career and educational planning should be approached as a positive individual experience. As the Simpson Career Counselor, my role is to be a facilitator to our students while providing resources to further their own understanding of self. Recognizing that each individual engages in career development at different stages, I strive to walk along side our students in their journey and coach them in the decision-making process. I do not direct the student in what they “should” do with their life, rather I will challenge and support each individual student to find their own path. Through active listening and sharing relevant information related to their interests, I will guide them to maximize their strengths.
The foundation of achieving a satisfying career and making good life choices begins with a clear understanding of one’s self. These attributes include your interests, strengths & weaknesses, skills, personality, values, and passions. Our services offer a variety of assessments that allow you to explore how you are unique and what potential careers might allow you to utilize your gifts and abilities to their fullest.
I like to look at my role as a partner in the student becoming empowered while they are in the process of determining, pursuing, and achieving their personal goals across their lifespan. Our primary objective at the Career Services Center is to provide comprehensive personal services and resources for our students.
You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. - Psalm 16:11 (NIV)
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you. - Psalm 32:8
