Homecoming Week Event Schedule - Feb. 4-9 - ONE BIG WEEK!

Homecoming 2013 is a week filled with on campus fun for students that culminates in a weekend full of great activities for anyone who calls SU home--students, alumni, parents, friends of Simpson, faculty and staff. You don't want to miss any of it! Be sure to come back to this webpage during the weekend to see pictures and recaps!

Campus Wide Spirit Week Events

  SU student leadership teams are going above and beyond to create a spirit week for students packed full of themed dress up days, fun activities (like GYFAD--Get Your Friend A Date), contests and competitions with prizes! The excitement starts on Monday with something new each day, all building toward Saturday where we will celebrate with a Tailgate Party before the big games against CSU Maritime.

  • Matching Monday - a twist on Twin day where students dress in matching clothes
  • Timeline Tuesday - students dress up in their favorite decade clothing
  • PJ Wednesday - students wear their Simpson-appropriate pajamas
  • Throwback Thursday - students wear their favorite jersey or t-shirt to represent their favorite team
  • Fandom Friday - students dress up as whatever they are a fan of (Harry Potter, rock music, hockey player etc.)
  • School Spirit Saturday - Students dress up in Simpson gear

Powder Puff Tournament (Click for Photos)

  The intramurals team is planning a Powder Puff Basketball Tournament with games during Homecoming Week. The championship finals will be Thursday, Feb.7. So ladies, get some teammates together and recruit some guys to cheer you on. Watch for sign-ups in the Caf. Even if you are not planning to play, definitely mark your calendars to cheer on your favorite teams.


Friday, Feb. 8

All Day Grandparent Day

  Grandparents will be spending the day with their students, enjoying activities planned specifically for them.

  Do you have a favorite professor? Perhaps you can make a visit to his or her class! We will have a list available of classes which are open to our guests.

  Join us as we welcome and recognize distinguished alumni and grandparents. Jonathan Young ('99) will be sharing details about his life in ministry as Regional Field Director for The ONE Campaign where he has the opportunity to help inspire raising voices, and to take action across the country, for 1 billion people who are steeped in extreme global poverty.

11:30 a.m. Workshop with Jonathan Young

  Discover more information at this interactive workshop on the scope of work done by The ONE Campaign that works bring awareness to world hunger.

1:15 p.m. Prayer Walk

  Simpson University Prayer Walk will be guided by Travis Osborne, Director of Spiritual Formation. Join with students, staff, and faculty as we visit different areas of the campus to pray for the the Lord's continued blessing.

6 p.m. Alumni Banquet

  Jonathan Young ('99) is our featured speaker and will share about his work with musician Bono's "The ONE Campaign." The dinner will be held at one of Redding's most popular restaurants, C.R. Gibbs Grill. We've lowered the actual cost of the dinner to only $12 for single tickets; $20 per couple. Great food, great fellowship, great deal!

7:30 p.m. A.B. Simpson's Amazing Race

  SU student leadership will be hosting a night of intrigue, excitement and adventure, as students join together in teams to complete in the Amazing Race. Students will cover the campus in a mad dash for clues in order to win a CASH prize to be awarded at the bon fire gathering following the game. Smores will be served- YUM! There may even be a few faculty members who join in on the fun, so stay tuned!

12 p.m. Hall of Fame Induction Lunch (Click for Photos)

  Friends and family are invited to this luncheon sponsored by SU Athletics Department. The following athletes will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

4-7 p.m. Tailgate Party Extravaganza & BBQ (Click for Photos)


A fun time for all, the SU Tailgate Party, sponsored by the Alumni Association, is from 4-7 p.m. his is a "rain-or-shine" Alumni Association event that has something for everyone -- students, alumni, and families. We will have free-throw contests, face painting, inflatable jump house, basketball game, and 30-foot fun course, a BBQ catered by Fat Boys, games, prize wheel, visits from the Red Hawk mascot and more! Booths will be set-up with carnival style games. Soft drinks, goodies, and popcorn concession stands will be available with all proceeds to benefit student mission teams. Cost for the BBQ is an incredibly low $2/students & children under 10; $5 for alumni; $7 for other guests.

Join the FYE students for the "Club Hawk" After Party in the transformed Emeriti Dining Center. There will be fun, games and dancing immediately following the Men's Basketball game on Saturday night.


Sunday, Feb. 10 - BONUS EVENT!

5:30 p.m.An Evening with Jon Miller (Click for Photos)


This event is a fundraiser to benefit the Redding Community Baseball Field, a first-class, regulation-sized field being built on the university’s campus for area youth and collegiate teams. The evening will include baseball stadium-themed food, silent and live auctions, and tales from the legendary Miller, who has announced Giants games for 16 seasons. Seating is limited.



A block of rooms has been reserved at the Oxford Suites in Redding, approximately 3 miles from campus. Please call 800.762.0133 and request the Simpson University Homecoming rate. Rooms are subject to availability at a rate of $89 (plus taxes) per night and include an full breakfast.
