For Immediate Release
03.05.2007
REDDING, Calif. - In an effort to provide additional California students with access to higher education, Simpson University is offering full tuition to students who receive Cal Grant and Pell Grant for the 2007-2008 school year. Students in the traditional undergraduate program and ASPIRE, Simpson's adult degree-completion program, are eligible.
Students receiving the maximum amount of Cal Grant A, $9,708 and who qualify for any amount of Pell Grant, $400-$4,310, will be guaranteed full tuition their first year, with the same amount provided through the following three years, assuming the student maintains state, federal and institutional academic requirements.
Simpson University students whose scholarships and grants do not equal the cost of tuition will receive Simpson grants to cover the full amount.
Simpson University President Dr. Larry J. McKinney said, "Simpson University is a private institution committed to making higher education an obtainable goal for everyone. We are dedicated to providing California students with access to a great education and a limitless future."
Under the Cal Grant/ Pell Grant supplement, students will only be responsible for tuition increases after the first year.
Dennis Diestler, financial aid officer with College Options said, "It's great that Simpson University is taking the lead in offering additional financial assistance to students to support the rising cost of college."
Simpson University is a partner with College Options, an organization providing Shasta and Siskiyou county students with college awareness and preparation services.
At Simpson University, over 99 percent of traditional undergraduate students and 88 percent of non-traditional students receive financial assistance. Of the current students enrolled, one-third of them receive Cal Grant A. In addition, over half of the student body receives Pell Grant.
