REDDING, Calif. – On Saturday, Oct. 3, as part of Simpson University’s 5th Annual Day of Service, more than 150 students, faculty, and staff will partner with the Community Creek Clean-Up Action Group to clean areas near the Sacramento River Trail.

Simpson University students will volunteer from 8 a.m. to noon by removing invasive non-native plant material and excessive dead wood along the Sacramento River Trail, three miles from Diestelhorst Bridge to the Stress Ribbon Bridge.

Simpson University’s Annual Day of Service provides students, staff and faculty an opportunity to build new relationships, participate in work projects, and meet needs in different areas of the community.

Luke Pettengill, Simpson University’s student outreach intern, says Simpson University’s Annual Day of Service is a great opportunity to give back to the community and build relationships in the Redding area.

“October 3rd will provide a opportunity for the Redding area to see what Simpson University is all about and it’s a chance to show incoming students the heart we possess for our community,” said Pettengill.

In September 2005, Simpson University hosted its first Day of Service in partnership with Habitat for Humanity and local churches. Volunteers participated in home building, small work projects, and clean-up in the Martin Luther King Jr. neighborhood.

Since then, the Annual Day of Service has expanded to include partnerships with the city of Redding, the Downtown Redding Business Association, and Community Creek Clean-Up Action Group.

Celebrating 20 years in Redding, Simpson University is a Christian university of liberal arts and professional studies offering undergraduate, graduate and teaching credential programs. Simpson’s academic programs also include ASPIRE, a degree-completion program geared toward working adults in the north state.
