Simpson basketball teams advance to Cal Pac Conference Tournament

REDDING, Calif. – Simpson University’s women's and men’s basketball teams advanced to the California Pacific Conference tournament. Games are being held Feb. 24 – March 2. The women finished conference play ranked third with a program-best 7-5 conference record and an 8-22 overall record. This is the first time in school history that Simpson women’s basketball team has finished this high in conference play. The men’s basketball team finished ranked sixth in the Cal Pac with a 4-8 conference record and a 9-19 overall record..
First-round tournament play begins on Feb. 24. The Lady Red Hawks are hosting No. 6 Pacific Union College at the Heritage Student Life Center at 7:30 p.m. The men’s basketball team travels to Oakland, Calif., to play No. 3 Holy Names University at 6 p.m.
“The athletic department is extremely excited for both teams to compete in the Cal Pac tournament,” said head women’s basketball coach and assistant athletic director Derrick Pringle Jr. “We feel our basketball teams have a great chance of succeeding in the conference tournament and hopefully reach the NAIA II national tournament.”
Live video and audio cast of the playoff games will be available via the Internet from the Simpson University web site.
The winner of the Cal Pac tournament gets an automatic bid to the NAIA II National Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa, which is March 10-16.
