REDDING, Calif. – Simpson University announced today that it has been selected to compete for a $250,000 grant in the Pepsi Refresh Project during the month of October to help fund the Redding Community Baseball Field.
In partnership with Add Some Color, the Major League Baseball Players Association, Baseball Tomorrow, the City of Redding, the Colt .45’s and the Redding Vipers, Simpson University submitted an application to Pepsi in September and was chosen to be one of the nearly 1,200 total contestants during October.
Pepsi Refresh grants will be awarded to organizations with ideas receiving the greatest number of votes during the month of October, and only two ideas will be awarded a grant within the $250,000 category.
If awarded the grant, the Redding Community Baseball Field, which will be constructed on the Simpson University campus, will provide a safe, alcohol-, tobacco- and drug-free venue for youth and collegiate baseball and local events.
The Redding Community Baseball Field committee is calling on the greater Redding area to help secure the votes necessary to win the grant. Beginning Oct. 1, individuals can visit www.facebook.com/LetsPlayBall and place one vote each day in October. Voters do not need a Facebook account to vote.
To help entice voters, Simpson University will be giving away several Apple iPads to lucky voters at the end of October. Each time a vote is cast for the Redding Community Baseball Field, the voter will be registered into a drawing to win an iPad.
The Pepsi Refresh campaign is designed to fund “good ideas” that help their communities. Since January, Pepsi has awarded $1.3 million each month to individuals, businesses, and non-profits whose ideas have a positive impact in their communities. Categories range from health and education to the arts and environment.
To vote for the Redding Community Baseball Field project and enter into the drawing for an Apple iPad, visit www.facebook.com/LetsPlayBall.
