REDDING, Calif. – The Simpson University Spiritual Formation Department has partnered with the city of Shasta Lake and Calvary Chapel Shasta Lake to hold the 1st Annual “Run for the Youth: Family Fun Day.”

The free event will take place on April 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. next to the Calvary Chapel in Shasta Lake at 4302 Shasta Dam Blvd.

Activities will include craft booths, face painting, and inflatable bounce houses and slides.

In addition, there will be a 5K Race and a 2-mile Kids’ Fun Run/Walk. Participants can register at Fleet Feet on Hilltop Drive. Registration for the 5K and 2-mile fun run/walk is $20 for individuals and $60 for a family of four prior to April 17. A T-shirt and breakfast is included with registration. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the races will begin promptly at 9 a.m.

All proceeds from the event will support Open Door Youth Ministries, a Shasta County-based organization designed for parents and students that provides free tutoring, art classes, and athletic programs. The Open Door Youth Center will serve as a safe, healthy environment for students to grow academically and artistically.

Luke Pettengill, student outreach intern at Simpson University, said, “We are excited to partner with a group of people who are so passionate about coming alongside the youth in this community. It's our hope to raise money and awareness for this remarkable ministry that has made a commitment to these kids not because they had to, but because they saw a need and responded.”
