For Immediate Release
09.30.2010
REDDING, Calif. – Simpson University & Shasta College announced today details about the inaugural performance of the new Shasta Symphony Orchestra entitled New Beginnings, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the Shasta College Theatre.
The concert will celebrate the orchestra created when the Simpson Sinfonia and the Shasta Symphony merged this summer under the baton of Dr. Dwayne Corbin. Appropriately, Dvorak’s Symphony no. 9, From the New World, will be the featured work of the concert, along with an original fanfare Corbin commissioned for this concert. Borodin’s Polovetsian Dances and Charles Ives’ The Unanswered Question will also be included in the program.
“I am thrilled to be able to unveil this new orchestra to the community,” commented Dr. Corbin. “I believe the audience will be pleased at the magnitude and quality of what we are able to do with our local talent. The repertoire is diverse, and I know listeners of all ages will be able to engage in this concert—from the evocative New World Symphony to the mysterious and philosophical Unanswered Question. Matched with the festive new fanfare and Polovetsian Dances, it is surely going to be a spectacular evening.”
General admission tickets are $12 and $10 for students and seniors. They can be purchased online at simpsonu.edu/musicevents until Oct. 28 and at the door the evening of the performance.
