REDDING, Calif. – Simpson University has announced the launch of its much-anticipated four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) program. Offered to traditional undergraduate students, the B.S.N. will begin this fall after it was unanimously approved by the Board of Registered Nurses on Wednesday.
Simpson University’s provost, Dr. Stanley Clark, said, “The shortage of nurses in the north state is chronic and problematic. This new degree program is another effort by Simpson University to serve the region, and to further accomplish our institutional mission of world service.”
During the first three semesters of the program, students are considered pre-nursing students, and will complete general education and prerequisite courses before entering the B.S.N. program their sophomore year.
Upon successful completion of the BSN program, graduates will be eligible for both the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) for licensure in California and additionally, the Public Health Credential.
Students will be prepared for graduate school or a variety of careers in the rapidly expanding nursing field, including hospital management, consulting, home health care management, and teaching.
All classes will be offered on the Simpson campus. Fundraising is underway for a new Science and Nursing Center, to address the anticipated needs of the program.
In 2007, Simpson started a two-year pre-nursing program for traditional undergraduate students and a 16-month R.N.-to-B.S.N. step-up program offered through its Adult Studies (ASPIRE) program.
Simpson University has formal partnerships with seven Northern California hospitals and health care facilities.
Applications are now being accepted for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. For more information about the four-year B.S.N. major call 1-888-9-SIMPSON or e-mail admissions@simpsonu.edu.
