Simpson’s women’s basketball signs three more letters of intent

REDDING, Calif. – Simpson University women’s head basketball coach Derrick Pringle announced three new student-athletes will join the Red Hawks during the 2010-2011 academic year. The athletes who signed letters of intent include Ashley Hayes of Season, Calif., Charissa Murakami of Sacramento and Tempest Dawson of Stockton.
Hayes joins the Simpson University Red Hawks from Monterey Peninsula College where she played under coach Wendy Bates. The 5-foot-5 guard earned 7 points, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 5 rebounds per game. She will join Simpson in the fall and is undeclared in her major.
“Ashley is a great floor general and a great teammate,” said Pringle. “She will bring experience to our program and we’re excited to see what she will accomplish in our program.”
Murakami, a 5-foot-8 forward from Sacramento, played two years at Cosumnes River College under coach Coral Sage. She averaged 16 points and four rebounds per game and lead Big 8 Conference in a 3-point field goal percentage of 41.7. Her athletic honors include being team captain, Most Outstanding Player, Big 8 Conference 1st Team, and Cosumnes River College Scholar Athlete of the Year. She is undeclared in her major.
Coach Pringle said, “It’s exciting to add a player with such high character as Charissa. She is an excellent student and a talented player. She will be an asset to our team both on and off the court.”
A 5-foot-8 wing from Stockton, Dawson played two years at Delta College where she played under coach Gina Johnson. She plans to double major in psychology and biology at Simpson.
“Tempest is a multi-dimensional player who will fit well in our program and style of play. She is an extremely focused individual and will bring a lot to our program,” said Pringle.
