REDDING, Calif. – Simpson University women’s head basketball coach Derrick Pringle Jr. announced today that Sara Rooker of Reno, NV, signed a letter of intent to play for the Red Hawks during the 2010-2011 academic year.

Rooker joins Nichole Jones of Puyallup, Wash., Kaity Hahn of Sacramento, and Ariassa Wilson of Tacoma, Wash., who signed earlier in the week.

Rooker will join the Simpson University Red Hawks from Sierra College, where she has played for two years under the direction of Coach Brandi Murrish. She averaged six assists per game, two steals per game, 92 percent from the free-throw line, 48 percent from the 3-point line, and eight points per game.

“Sara is a very tough and competitive individual, which is one of the things that caught my attention,” said Pringle. “She comes from a very successful junior college program, and I hope she can bring her winning ways to our program.”

The 5-foot-3 point guard earned High Desert All League, 2008 Optimist Team, 2006-2008 captain and 2008-2009 captain.

"I chose Simpson University because I think it is a great place for me to continue my career as an athlete and as a student,” said Rooker. “It is not only an elite program but the right place for me to grow spiritually and as an individual."

Rooker will enroll in the Simpson University communication degree program in the fall.
