REDDING, Calif. - For the third consecutive year, Simpson University, in partnership with the Redding Record Searchlight, will offer a $5,000 Emerging Leader Scholarship to a local high school senior through the 20 Under 40 Program.
The Record Searchlight's 20 Under 40 Program annually features 20 north state individuals under the age of 40 who demonstrate leadership, initiative and innovation in their profession and in the community.
One of the 2012 winners will serve as the scholarship ambassador and will be responsible for choosing the high school senior to whom the $5,000 Emerging Leader Scholarship will be awarded. The scholarship ambassador will meet with their scholarship recipient in a mentoring capacity as they pursue their college education.
Past scholarship ambassadors included Scott Putnam, CEO of Apex Technology Management, and Erin Resner, co-owner of Dutch Bros.
Nominations closed on Nov. 6, 2012. Winners will be announced on Jan. 23 at a public reception at the McConnell Foundation. Winners will also be featured in a special section of the Record Searchlight.
The 20 Under 40 Emerging Leader Scholarship is designed for a traditional undergraduate student and will be applied over the course of a four-year period in equal payments for a qualified student in good academic standing.
Tickets for the 20 Under 40 Program reception, which takes place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 23, are $15.
High school seniors who are interested in learning how they could be the recipient of the Emerging Leader Scholarship should contact their school counselor.
