Simpson University welcomes new men’s basketball coach

For Immediate Release

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University is pleased to announce the hiring of Jim Holcomb as head men’s basketball coach and assistant athletic director.

Holcomb is no stranger to Simpson—he earned his bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership in 2001 through the School of Adult Studies (ASPIRE), and a teaching credential and master’s degree in education through the School of Education. His daughter attended Simpson, and Holcomb has taught in the ASPIRE program.

He also served as an assistant coach with Simpson’s basketball team from 1999-2003, then led the Anderson High School boys’ team from 2003-2008. For the past five seasons, Holcomb has been assistant coach for Shasta College’s basketball team.

“I am very excited to get this opportunity of coaching and being part of the Simpson University athletic staff,” he said. “I have a great fondness and passion for Simpson from coaching here before and see the possibilities of what can be accomplished with the student athletes in their lives as well as on the basketball court.”

Holcomb brings experience, commitment and dedication that will continue the development of the basketball program, which looks forward to some strong returning players and the addition of exciting new recruits, said university Athletic Director Joe Griffin.

“It was a long process with a lot of great candidates for the position, but Jim just was a great fit for Simpson at this time in our development,” he said. “We think his dedication and commitment to excellence will help continue our advancement in the Cal-Pac conference.”

Holcomb will start his duties immediately.
