Simpson University student-athletes help with 25th annual Duck Derby

REDDING, Calif. - For the 10th consecutive year, dozens of Simpson University student-athletes partnered with the Redding East Rotary and community organizations in the 25th annual Ducky Derby.

On Sept. 28, nearly 100 student-athletes participated with other community volunteers in the annual duck-sticking and duck-packing effort of more than 34,000 rubber ducks.

"The key to the success of the Ducky Derby is teamwork," said Marge Beck, this year's program leader of the Ducky Derby. "One of the key players in this event is Simpson University. Starting with the creative design and printing service, all the help we get with sticking and packing, as well as financial support, Simpson University is a cornerstone that holds up this event. It is especially satisfying for me to work with the Simpson students as they are warm, polite, thoughtful and just plain fun."

"At Simpson we strive to be of service to all who are in need, no matter how big or small the task," said senior Ian Corella, men's basketball student-athlete. "Service is one of the characteristics we focus on at Simpson, and we believe that even the simplest of acts can have a great impact on the lives of others."
