Simpson University for Seniors

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University for Seniors is offering the following spring courses, from Wednesday, March 26, through April 16:

Lincoln: The Man Behind the Film: Daniel Day-Lewis’ Academy Award-winning performance in Steven Spielberg’s film, “Lincoln” (2012), captivated moviegoers and brought renewed attention to our 16th president. Abraham Lincoln is understood by many to be nothing short of an American hero—even legendary. But who was Lincoln, really? In this course we'll examine Lincoln's writings on politics, slavery, marriage, family, religion, war, and freedom, drawing our own conclusions about the man we simply know as "Lincoln." Presented by Dr. John Ayabe, associate professor of history.

Christian Apologetics: Exercising Faith in a Doubting World: Apologetics is the branch of theology and philosophy that focuses on giving a reasoned defense for our Christian faith. This class is an introductory but serious course focused on the major issues and approaches to Christian apologetics. Topics include the nature and limits of apologetics, approaches to apologetics, the problem of evil, and apologetics in everyday life. Presented by Dr. Brian Larsen, associate professor of English.

Simpson University for Seniors is a program designed for adults of any age who are interested in studying a variety of topics in monthlong, not-for-credit courses.

The classes meet from 10:20 to 11:20 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on Simpson’s campus, for a total of 10 one-hour instructional sessions. Courses are taught by university professors and professionals in their field of expertise, and there are no tests, grades or homework.

Two courses are offered each month through May. The cost is $95 per person, per course, or $145 for couples registering for the same course. Register online and pay with a credit card at simpsonu.edu/seniorschool, or fill out a paper registration form and pay with a check (mail to Simpson University for Seniors, 2211 College View Drive, Redding, CA 96003).
