REDDING, Calif. - Generous givers donated more than $8,400 online Dec. 1 to Simpson University’s Annual Student Scholarship Fund, the majority through a North State Giving Tuesday initiative hosted by the Shasta Regional Community Foundation.
Simpson University was one of 64 organizations in Shasta and Siskiyou counties to participate in the foundation’s first Giving Tuesday event. More than $320,000 was raised collectively—far exceeding the goal of $150,000, organizers said.
Giving Tuesday was started four years ago as a global day dedicated to giving back.
All dollars raised through North State Giving Tuesday are increased by incentive dollars provided by the Shasta Regional Community Foundation.
“Simpson University was honored to participate in the first North State Giving Tuesday event,” said Martha McCoy, annual giving coordinator. “We are so grateful to those who gave to support student scholarships and to make this global fundraising event a success.”
Simpson University gives more than $600,000 to students each year through the Annual Student Scholarship Fund.
A new initiative to support the scholarship fund was launched this fall. Called the 1921 Founders Club—in recognition of the year Simpson was founded—the club is aiming for 1,000 members who will give $19.21 each week ($83.24 a month) and commit to pray daily for the university.
