Simpson University Invites Community to Common Reading Program
For Immediate Release
09.08.2016
When the NAIA released its list of 171 qualifying member institutions, Simpson was named a bronze medallion recipient. The California Pacific Conference, of which Simpson is a part, was also recognized as a five-star conference honoree. A full list of recipients can be found here.
Schools qualify for five-star Champions of Character recognition based on a number of criteria, including character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition and character promotion.
"When I was hired a year ago, I set this as one of our highest priorities for department goals," Director of Athletics Tom Galbraith said. "The medallion award is a testament to the hard work our student-athletes, coaches, and staff do outside of the field of competition to better serve the Redding community and live out our Simpson University mission of service to others."
The five stars represent integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and student leadership. The Champions of Character program provides training related to these values for student-athletes, coaches, and athletics professionals. The goal of the program is to teach individuals how to incorporate the values into practice, competition, and daily life.
