Simpson University Faculty, Friends Present Instrumental Electronic Show
For Immediate Release
09.21.2016
REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University music faculty and friends will present a night of indie-electronic music on Sept. 30 at The Stirring on Churn Creek Road.
The 7:30 p.m. show costs $5 per person and also features artwork by local artist Maria Wayman.
Starving Architect, a duo composed of Simpson University music professor Dwayne Corbin on drums and Simpson alumnus Jonathan Tucker ’08 on drums and electronics, will headline the evening.
“Dr. Corbin is well known to the community as the conductor of the Shasta Symphony, but Starving Architect reveals a completely different side of his wide-ranging musical skills,” said Dr. Dan Pinkston, chair of Simpson’s Music Department. “The music is somewhere between post-rock and indie electronica, but also has a strong sense of classical composition and development.”
The show also features two opening acts: Daniel James, a multi-instrumentalist who combines samples, electronic sounds, and looping techniques to create improvised live music that crosses many genres; and Strange Fire, a side project of Dr. Pinkston, who teaches music theory and composition. Dr. Pinkston describes the brief pieces as “ambient and spacious, drenched with reverb and evocative of a post-rock, digital landscape.”
Starving Architect and Strange Fire have recordings available online on Bandcamp.
