Simpson University to Offer Teacher Credential Program in Modoc County

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University’s School of Education is partnering with the Modoc County Office of Education to bring its teacher credentialing program back to California’s far northeastern region.

A well-documented growing teacher shortage in California, especially as veteran teachers retire, prompted Simpson University educators to look for ways to help meet the need.

The School of Education’s teacher credentialing program, designed to prepare new K-12 teachers for Modoc County, is scheduled to start Sept. 6. The evening classes will be held at the Modoc County Office of Education.

The decision was made to offer a face-to-face program, rather than an online program.

“Teaching is about a personal relationship with students, so we value having courses taught in real time with expert professors,” Dr. Brooks said. “Our courses prepare new teachers to be effective in the education field today through blended coursework, observations in schools and 15 weeks of student teaching, which can be completed in the students’ community.”

The School of Education, which offers master’s degrees in education and teaching and a California Preliminary Administrative Services Credential, in addition to single- and multi-subject teaching credentials, at its Redding location, also offers teacher credentialing cohorts in Siskiyou and Lassen counties.
