Simpson University Welcomes Haven Humane Pets for Finals Week
For Immediate Release
REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University students is getting some furry study-break pals during finals week, thanks to the Haven Humane Society.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 25 and 27, Haven will bring dogs to campus for students to stop by and pet. The dogs will be near the clock tower, centrally located near the Grubbs Learning Center, Science and Nursing Center, and LaBaume-Rudat Hall.
Mark Storrey, chief executive officer of Haven, said the idea for "Pause for Paws" came from a Haven volunteer who saw it take place on another university campus and thought it would be neat to try locally. Haven first brought dogs to campus during finals week in December, and the event was a hit.
Not only do the students get a fun break, Storrey said, the dogs also benefit from a “field trip” and socialization.
“Many studies show that spending time with dogs calms people and decreases stress,” he said. “Knowing how stressful college finals can be, we thought this was a perfect place to bring our dogs that are always looking for some love and attention.”
Haven Humane has been caring for lost, homeless and abused animals in the Redding area since 1952.
