Simpson University to Host Worship Concert with Kristene DiMarco
For Immediate Release
REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University’s Music Department is partnering with Redding singer-songwriter Kristene DiMarco to host “It Is Well,” a free community worship concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 3, in the James M. Grant Student Life Center.
Seating is limited. Free tickets can be reserved online at simpsonu.edu/praise. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for those with advance tickets.
The concert will be a special collaboration between Simpson University choirs and DiMarco, who will sing traditional hymns from her latest CD, “Mighty,” including her 2014 rendition of “It Is Well,” which was released to radio in 2015 and is played in churches around the world.
The first part of the evening will feature music by Simpson music students and faculty and the Women’s Choir. After intermission, the choirs will join DiMarco and her band for a collective worship experience.
“We hope to recast traditional hymns and the role of choir in the context of contemporary worship leading,” said Dr. Cyril Myers Jr., director of choral activities at Simpson. “In my experience, there is no greater or profound statement of collective and unified worship and community than participation in a chorus.”
DiMarco, who helps lead worship at home and abroad, said she is excited about the opportunity to sing with the choirs and lead the audience in worship.
“I’ve had the most significant experiences of God when I’m with a large group of people,” she said. “It’s like perfection walks into the room.”
DiMarco and her husband live in Redding with their two children. In addition to “Mighty,” she also has albums titled “Those Who Dream” and “Safe Place.” She’s working on a new album for release in the fall.
