A.W. Tozer Theological Seminary Offers Courses in Spanish

For Immediate Release

Tozer Spanish Class

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University’s A.W. Tozer Theological Seminary offered its first course completely in Spanish this fall.

Eleven students are enrolled in the Survey of the Old Testament class, which is offered one Saturday per month in Woodland, Calif.

The class was created to meet the need for Spanish language courses for pastors and volunteers in Hispanic churches within the Central Pacific District of the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA), the denomination to which the seminary belongs.

“Most students have some English language skills, but do not feel confident in studying in a second language,” said seminary dean Dr. Patrick Blewett. “Research suggests that to be strategic and effective educationally, a person who can study in his or her first language will learn far better than studying in a second language.”

Dr. Blewett is working with Dr. David Dummer, a retired C&MA missionary to Latin America, on coordinating the development of this outreach into the Hispanic community and the recruitment of instructors.

The seminary will offer Survey of the New Testament in Spanish this spring.

“Hispanic pastors and leaders from the Central Pacific District are very happy to have the opportunity to get a better education thanks to the effort of Simpson University and Tozer Theological Seminary,” said Edgar Castro, Hispanic coordinator for the Central Pacific District.
