For Immediate Release
02.28.2017
REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University is expanding its veterans services with a new work study program, national honor society chapter, and an upcoming visit day for community college student veterans.
President Robin Dummer shared these initiatives—as well as Simpson’s long history with military service members and veterans—during a keynote address at the Shasta County Veterans Affiliated Council’s 25th annual awards dinner on Feb. 18.
The yearly event honors veterans and civilians for their extraordinary service to the Shasta County veterans community. Dr. Dummer was invited to speak about Simpson University’s advocacy for veterans.
In November, the university opened a Veterans Success Center on campus, designed as a one-stop shop for veterans, service members, and their dependents to access educational and career-planning resources, as well as providing a space for them to study and relax.
In its first full semester, the center—under the direction of Veterans Services Coordinator Justin Spears, is serving 31 students who receive veterans benefits, 28 of them veterans.
