DESCRIPTION:Event Schedule\nCall for Proposals:\nWednesday\, April 8th\, 2026 is the date for the 16th annual Student Research Symposium (SRS ’26) on the campus of Simpson University. The organizing committee invites students from the traditional undergraduate program\, the adult degree-completion program\, graduate programs\, and cooperating area schools to submit proposals for presentations. This event is a treasured tradition at Simpson\, one that celebrates academic excellence\, public scholarship\, and the unique contributions of student voices across disciplines. \nSymposium Theme: \nThis year’s theme is INFLUENCE(R). \nEvery generation has its influencers. Some are household names. Others are teachers\, caregivers\, innovators\, or storytellers—people whose ideas and presence leave a mark. In today’s digital age\, the term influencer brings to mind curated content and social platforms\, but the concept goes deeper. Who shapes our behavior\, our language\, our beliefs? And how do we\, in turn\, influence others? From the biological to the political\, from marketing trends to moral imagination\, influence is everywhere. \nStudents and their sponsoring faculty are invited to creatively explore how influence works within their field of study. Who gets heard? Who gets followed? How is credibility earned—or lost? How does influence move through networks\, traditions\, algorithms\, or art? The theme Influence(r) is meant to be wide-ranging\, welcoming both critical reflection and constructive vision. We encourage you to share how your discipline helps us understand the forces that shape us. \nKeynote Speaker:\nDr. Alexandria Arrieta is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Digital Media at Biola University whose work explores the intersection of internet culture\, popular music\, and emerging technologies. Her research focuses on viral short-form video platforms like TikTok\, music creators\, and the growing influence of generative AI in creative industries. \nDr. Arrieta’s scholarship has been published in leading academic journals\, and she brings real-world industry experience through collaborations with organizations such as Warner Music Group and the Latin Recording Academy. In addition to her academic work\, she is also a Christian R&B artist\, offering a unique perspective that bridges research\, creativity\, and faith. \nSubmission Process:\nThe SRS ’26 committee welcomes presentations in four different formats: individual talk\, panel discussion\, poster/graphic\, or performance/creative. And now advances in artificial intelligence have us asking timeless questions all over again: What is intelligence? What defines consciousness? Or humanity? Come explore the theme of “digital human” in each of your fields of study. \nPresent on the impact of digital communication on human relationships\, or the ubiquitous presence of digital devices in health care and education systems\, or the rise of digital monies like Bitcoin. We encourage you to contribute your voice to this important conversation. The world is constantly changing but our mission remains the same in this digital age: Simpson exists to equip students for their calling through Christ-led\, transformational\, and innovative education. DESCRIPTION:The EDGE is a student wilderness adventure experience. The EDGE is a week of backpacking\, white water rafting and rock climbing that is designed to prepare you for success at Simpson University. It is a transformational wilderness journey. \nThe Edge takes place before the start of Fall semester and is a 3-credit course\, which will be part of your Fall semester. There is a $650 course fee which covers food and equipment. DESCRIPTION:The Student Research Symposium is an annual\, day-long event in which students from Simpson University’s undergraduate\, Adult Studies and graduate programs present talks\, posters or panel discussions on a wide variety of topics. The public is invited to attend the 10- to 30-minute presentations or facilitated poster sessions. \nThe symposium began in 2011 as a faculty initiative to give Simpson students an opportunity to share their research outside the classroom. The symposium was opened to regional high school students in 2018. Divided into morning and afternoon sessions\, with a lunchtime plenary address\, the symposium is modeled after professional academic conferences. \nPreliminary Call for Proposals for the 14th Annual Simpson Student Research Symposium\nOn Wednesday\, April 3rd\, 2024\, Simpson University will hold the 14th Annual Student Research Symposium (SRS ‘24) on campus. The organizing committee encourages students from the traditional undergraduate program\, the adult degree-completion program\, graduate programs\, and local high schools to submit proposals for presentations at the event. This event is a special tradition for our university which celebrates academic excellence and strengthens student resumes. \nThe theme for our 14th symposium will be SUSTAINABILITY. This term is often used by environmentalists but also by therapists\, by economists\, or anyone who must deal with limited resources. To sustain a healthy ecosystem requires restraint. To sustain productive work rhythms requires a sober reflection on the needs of our support network. For many of our college students\, the habit of a sustainable lifestyle is an emerging skill that ultimately allows them to overcome common barriers to success.In line with other campus initiatives at Simpson University (a Sustainability Club was launched last Fall!)\, our theme hopes to deepen the conversation around sustainability for the sake of flourishing people and flourishing places. The modern world pushes us to extend our limits. Ignore our limits. What’s the difference between a leap of faith and a reckless venture? Come and share the wisdom gained from researching with your discipline. Creatively consider the ways in which our theme can highlight the best our academic accomplishments have to offer.
