Program Overview

The Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology (MACP) program is designed to prepare you for licensure in the State of California as a Marriage and Family Therapist or Professional Clinical Counselor. Our comprehensive curriculum in cooperation with hands-on practicum will give you a broad academic and clinical experience that is uniquely grounded in the identity and values of a Christian university and will position you to positively impact individuals, couples and families in the community.

Program Structure

Students progress through a full two year program in a dual cohort model which provides an excellent learning experience in a supportive student community. Classes meet two evenings a week (6-9 PM) with a few courses being delivered online. During the final year of study, students also experience excellent clinical training at a variety of trusted practicum sites within the broader community, where they work under the supervision of a licensed professional.

Capstone Project

The Client Assessment and Practice Competency aims to demonstrate clinical insight, theory fluency, professional and ethical conduct, and presentation skills prior to graduation from the MACP program. Students present two case summaries of practicum clients and their therapy process throughout the year to a panel of community clinicians prior to graduation.

The program meets the following Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) licensure requirements:

  • California Business and Professions Code 4980.36 for Marriage and Family Therapy licensure in California
  • California Business and Professions Code 4999.32 for Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in California
