The Classified Employee Grant (CEG) provides guidance and financial assistance to individuals pursuing a California teaching credential.
Eligibility
- Previously held or currently hold a classified poistion within a California school district, charter school, or county office of education.
- Candidate must be interested in pursuing a CA Teaching Credential.
- Undergraduate Candidates (working toward a bachelor’s degree):
- Must be enrolled in, or planning to enroll in, a nonprofit, California-based institution.
- Must have completed a minimum of two years of postsecondary education.
- Bachelor’s Degree Holders:
- Must be enrolled in, or planning to enroll in, a nonprofit, California-based, California Commission-approved teacher preparation program.
- Credential Program Candidates:
- Program must be nonprofit and California Commission-approved.
Grant Funding
Participants who are in good standing with the grant, enrolled in an Institution of Higher Education (IHE) or Local Education Agency (LEA), and making progress toward their bachelor’s degree or teaching credential may receive a living stipend of up to $3,500.
To access grant funds, participants must submit the required paperwork. Please note, the grant provides funding for only one teaching credential.
The Classified Grant is available to help complete a bachelor’s degree and/or teacher preparation program.
Eligibility
- Must be part-time or full-time classified employee.
- Must already possess an associate’s degree or have successfully completed 60 college units.
- Interested in pursuing one of the following credentials: PK-3 ECE Specialist Instruction, Multiple Subject, Single Subject, or Education Specialist.
Availability
The SCOE Classified Teacher Grant is available for participants attending or planning to attend Reach University, Simpson University, Chico State University, National University, Sacramento State University, or Teachers College of San Joaquin.
Eligibility
- Be currently enrolled in a professional preparation program approved by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
- Please note: Intern teacher credential programs are not eligible for the GSTG
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress (SAP).
- Be working toward a preliminary teaching or pupil personnel services credential.
- Submit the GSTG and FAFSA applications.
- Complete their program and obtain their credential within 6 years from the date their initial GSTG payment is mailed to their institution.
- Commit to work at an eligible priority school or a CSPP by signing a Service Agreement.
Grant Funding
Applicants have varying eligibility restrictiopns, maximum award amounts, awarding prioritizations, funding restrictions, and service obligations according to their assigned cohort. Cohorts are assigned based on application submission date and Student Aid Index (SAI).

All teaching credential programs in Simpson University’s School of Education are approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) and accredited by the Western Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC).
The MAE degree is accredited by the Western Senior College and University Commission (WSCUS) and the teaching credential program is approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC).
