Professional Development (CEU)

Simpson University’s School of Education offers Continuing Education Units for various professional development trainings, workshops, Teacher Induction programs and CTE programs. All CEUs are priced at $70 per unit. It is your responsibility to confirm that these units will be accepted by your district for payroll advancement. Please click on the desired program to check any specific requirements or offerings.

Alternatively, graduate credits are available for participation in an Induction Program and are meant to be applied toward the Simpson University Master of Arts in Education degree. Graduate credits cannot be purchased if you have already purchased CEUs for your participation in induction.

Continuing Education Trainings and Courses

Induction Program CEUs

Tehama County Induction Program

Teachers – Induction participants may register for CEUs for completion of a year of Induction. Units are available for Year 1 or Year 2. Candidates may earn 3 CEUs for participation in an Induction program for the current school year. Candidates may earn an additional 3 CEUs for participation in Communities of Practice (COP) in the current school year. Please do not register for both induction years at once. For fall induction starters, registration is due no later than October 1st of the year induction is completed. For spring induction starters, registration is due no later than January 31st of the year induction is completed.

*Verification of participation will be confirmed with the Tehama Teacher Induction Program prior to issuance of CEUs. CEUs are non-refundable.

Mentors – Induction Mentors may register for CEUs for completion of a year of Induction mentorship. 6 CEUs are available for Year 1 or Year 2. Registration is due no later than October 1st of the year induction is completed.

Induction Program Graduate Credits

Induction participants, new teachers and mentors, may choose to purchase graduate credits for their completion of induction instead of CEUs. These graduate credits can be applied towards a Master of Arts in Education through Simpson University. Graduate credits are available at the same $70 per credit rate as CEUs. There is a 6-credit limit per candidate.

Tehama County Induction program

Teachers – Induction participants may register for 3 graduate credits for completion of one year of an Induction Program OR 6 graduate credits for completion of one year of an Induction Program with communities of practice or two years of an Induction Program without communities of practice. Candidates provide verification of completion of a year (Year 1 or year 2) of Induction, as a beginning teacher, with a transcript or certificate from the Director of Induction. Teachers have until October 1, for fall starts, or January 31st, for spring starts, of the year in which Induction was completed to apply for the 3 or 6 credits. Educators can only apply for one type of credit per Induction year. (No combining of Graduate credits and CEUs for the same Induction year). 

Mentors – Induction mentors may register for 6 graduate credits for completion of one year of serving as a mentor in an Induction Program. Mentors provide verification of completion of a year of Induction as a mentor with a certificate from the Director of Induction. Mentors have until October 1st of the year in which Induction was completed to apply for the 6 credits. Educators can only apply for one type of credit per Induction year. (No combining of Graduate credits and CEUs for the same Induction year).

CTE Program CEUs

Tehama County CTE Program

Teachers – CTE Teacher Preparation program participants may register for CEUs for completion of each semester of the CTE program. Units are available for each semester of Year 1 or Year 2.  Candidates may earn 3 CEUs for participation in the Fall semester and 3 CEUs for participation in Spring semester.

Mentors – CTE Teacher Preparation program Mentors may register for CEUs for completion of each semester of the CTE program. Units are available for each semester of Year 1 or Year 2.   Mentors may earn 3 CEUs for participation in the Fall semester and 3 CEUs for participation in Spring semester.

Leadership Academy CEUs

Students enrolled in the Shasta Leadership Academy may register for CEUs for the completion of each course in the Shasta Leadership Academy program. Candidates may earn 3-4 CEUs depending on the course. The cost is $70 per unit. Registration for CEUs must be completed by roughly a month and a half after the courses last meeting date. If you are enrolled in the combined Master of Arts in Education and PASC program at Simpson, you may not purchase CEUs for your coursework with Shasta Leadership Academy.Your course work can only count towards either the MA program or CEUs. Your courses cannot count for both. Verification of the completion of each course will be confirmed with the Shasta Leadership Academy prior to issuance of CEU units.

The following courses are a part of the Shasta Leadership Academy program and CEUs can be purchased for their completion:

  • Visionary Leadership- 3 CEUs
  • School Improvement Leadership- 3 CEUs
  • Organizational and Systems Leadership- 4 CEUs
  • Instructional Leadership- 4 CEUs
  • Professional Development & Ethical Leadership- 3 CEUs
  • Community Leadership- 3 CEUs
Professional Development CEUs

General Development and Trainings

This course integrates curriculum reform with teaching strategies in many subject areas.  This course is to help educators develop comprehensive teaching plans and actions that are standards-based. This is an umbrella course used to enroll educators who attend various workshops or conferences throughout the year.

  • Once you have acquired 15 or more hours (15 hours = 1 CEU), you will need to register and pay for your course.
  • Hours submitted must be within a one-year (or less) timeframe from start to finish and submitted immediately for credit to avoid having your hours expire. Hours more than one-year old are not acceptable for credits.
  • Simpson University does not track hours over 15-hour increments; keep copies of your submissions.
  • Your hours must be signed by the facilitator of your training, workshop or course to verify your full participation.

Clinical Practice Cooperating Teachers

Mentor Teachers and Peer Support Providers for Simpson University can purchase continuing education units for their clinical practice participation in the spring or fall semesters. 3 CEUs are available for participation in the fall semester and 3 CEUs are available for participation in the spring semester.

IRLEN Screening

IRLEN Screener Certificate participants may register and pay for two CEUs for the completion of the IRLEN Screening Certification Courses for the current Academic Year. With full participation in the 30-hour course, this course will qualify for (2) CEUs. Verification of completion will need to be signed by the course facilitator.

UPK Teacher Development

UPK Teacher Development participants may register and pay for one CEU for completion of the UPK training for the current Academic Year. With full participation, this course will qualify for (1) CEU. Verification of completion will need to be signed by the course facilitator.

CADRE Training

CADRE participants may register and pay for CEUs for completion of the CADRE training for the current Academic Year. With full participation, this course will qualify for (2) CEUs. Verification of completion will need to be signed by the course facilitator.

Phonics Training

Participants of the Phonics Workshop may register for CEUs for the Phonics workshop for the current academic year.  With full participation, this course will qualify for (1) CEU. Verification of completion will need to be given by the course facilitator.
