Program Overview

Critical thinking, writing and communication skills are essential to success in any field or endeavor. The ASPIRE Liberal Studies (Teacher Education) major is designed to teach you those skills, along with offering you a broad education in the various areas of human endeavor and knowledge. While this degree is practical if you plan to undertake a general exploration and understanding of various fields of study, it’s also ideal if you wish to earn your teaching credential.

Program Learning Outcomes
  • Develop the level of mastery in Reading, Language, and Literature as stipulated by the CA Commission on Teacher Credentialing to equip them for their future teaching context:
    – Domain 1: Language and Linguistics
    – Domain 2: Non-Written and Written Communication; and
    – Domain 3: Reading Comprehension and Analysis
  • Assess various art forms and literature from around the world.
  • Explain the basic concepts of biological and physical science.
  • Interpret processes for solving, mathematical problems by applying the elementary level California Common Core Standards.
  • Construct an accurate interpretation of the major historical developments to include world events, the evolution of the United States, and of California in particular, from pre-colonization to the current time.

Program Delivery

The Degree Completion Liberal Studies (Teacher Education) program is online, which allows you to pursue your education without changing your schedule. As a completely online program, you can complete your degree on time – your time. After taking a short online Orientation course, you will be prepared to participate in the online courses. The major consists of 12 online courses. Each course is 7 weeks long, running from Monday through Sunday and students take two courses at a time.
