Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology Admissions Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • 3.0 cumulative GPA (for final 60 semester credits – applicants with a lower GPA may still be considered through our holistic admissions process and the interview)

  • No GRE required
  • 5 prerequisites for non-psychology or non-social welfare majors (prerequisites are not necessary for psychology or social welfare majors:
    • Introduction to Psychology/General Psychology
    • Statistics OR Abnormal Psychology **
    • Research Methods OR Abnormal Psychology **
    • Human Development/Lifespan Development/Developmental Psychology
      (NOT child development)
    • Theories of Personality OR Theories of Counseling

**Abnormal Psychology can count toward either Statistics OR Research Methods, but not both.

Tip: Send your unofficial transcripts to transcripts@simpsonu.edu for the prerequisite requirement review. (Please send all transcripts from every college and university you’ve attended.) You don’t need to have all prerequisites completed before applying – only before the program begins in the fall.

After your application and documents are reviewed, you’ll also have an admissions interview with the director(s) of the MACP program.

The program begins once a year each fall (late August). Applying sooner can guarantee your spot. The application is free.

Exceptions to Minimum GPA

A limited number of applicants with a grade point average between 2.7 and 2.99 may be admitted to the program as provisional candidates at the discretion of the Program Admissions Committee. To be considered for provisional candidacy, applicants must demonstrate significant professional potential by submitting a statement of explanation, demonstrated career and/or professional accomplishments indicated in the personal statement and academic or professional letters of reference.

Addiction Recovery

In addition, applicants who are recovering from an addiction to substances of any kind must have been clean and sober for one year prior to entering the program and for two years prior to engaging in Clinical Field Placement. An explanation of all relevant circumstances related to an applicant’s addiction and recovery history must be included in the personal statement.

Master of Business Administration Admissions Requirements

The selection of candidates for the program is based on evidence of academic ability, interest in the field, emotional stability, maturity, integrity, and fit with the program. Applicants must meet the requirements outlined below.

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Demonstrated interest in and commitment to the study of business administration and leadership
  • Applicants must submit the following:
    • Application
    • Two references
    • Current Resume
    • 1500-word essay outlining:
      • Career objectives
      • Personal interest in business administration and leadership studies
      • The rationale for choosing to attend Simpson University
      • How life experiences have influenced your career choice
      • Any additional thoughts you deem important
    • Official transcripts from all post-secondary schools attended

International Graduate Students

Simpson University currently offers two programs to International Students seeking an F-1 Visa: Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology and Master of Arts in Education.
