If you’re an incoming traditional undergraduate student from Northern California, you qualify for an automatic 50% DISCOUNT on tuition through the North State Promise.

With full Cal Grant and Pell Grant awards, you could attend Simpson for approximately $4,000 per year.

FAQs

Q. Can I receive other Simpson scholarships along with the North State Promise?

No. The North State Promise is not stackable with any other Simpson-funded scholarships, grants, or tuition discounts.

Q. Can I still receive state or federal aid (like Cal Grant or Pell Grant)?

Yes. The North State Promise can be combined with external aid such as:

Cal Grant
Federal Pell Grant
Outside/private scholarships (non-Simpson)

Q. How do I apply for the North State Promise?

No separate application is required. Eligibility is automatically reviewed during the admissions and financial aid process. To receive the Promise:

Apply for admission and submit transcripts
File your FAFSA or CADAA by the priority deadline (Simpson School Code: 001291)
Enroll full-time

Q. Do I have to live on campus to receive the Promise?

No. There is no housing requirement. Whether you live on campus, off-campus, or commute from home, you can receive the North State Promise.

Q. If I’m an athlete, can I still receive the North State Promise?

If you receive a Simpson athletic scholarship, you cannot also receive the North State Promise. As an athlete, your coach determines your scholarship amount.

Q. Does Simpson offer other scholarships I can use with the North State Promise?

No. The North State Promise is not stackable with other Simpson University scholarships (including athletics, legacy, ministry, etc.).

Q. Do I have to stay enrolled full-time to keep the Promise?

Yes. You must maintain full-time enrollment (12+ units) each semester. Dropping below full-time may result in losing your eligibility for the Promise for that term and/or future terms.

Q. How will the Promise appear on my financial aid award letter or billing statement?

It will appear as a Simpson institutional scholarship covering 50% of base tuition for eligible terms. It does not apply to fees, housing, books, or meal plans.

Q. Can I use the North State Promise in summer or for graduate programs?

No. The Promise applies only to undergraduate full-time enrollment in Fall and Spring semesters. It cannot be used for:

Summer courses
Online-only programs
Graduate-level degrees

Q. What if I qualify for the Cal Grant and it covers most of my tuition — will I still get the Promise?

Yes — the Promise will cover up to 50% of your tuition. Federal and state aid are applied first, and then Simpson applies the Promise to fill in the remaining gap up to 50% of tuition, not exceeding it. You won’t receive a refund beyond tuition coverage.

Q. What if I don’t want the Promise and would rather use another Simpson scholarship I was offered?

You may choose to decline the North State Promise in writing and accept another Simpson scholarship instead. However, only one institutional award may be applied.
