TRIO Student Services Support

Supporting Student Persistence, Success, and Graduation

TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded program through the U.S. Department of Education that helps eligible undergraduate students persist, succeed academically, and graduate from college. TRIO serves as a gateway to student success by offering intentional, individualized, and intrusive support services throughout a student’s college journey. At Simpson University, TRIO SSS provides holistic academic, financial, social, and personal support to students who are first-generation, low-income, or have a disability.

TRIO SSS is here to support you, not just as a student, but as a whole person.

What We Offer


Academic Support

  • One‑on‑one academic coaching
  • Priority access to tutoring
  • Help staying on track with grades and coursework
  • Study skills, time management, and organization support
  • Personalized academic success plans

First-Year & Transition Support

  • TRIO‑focused First‑Year Experience (FYE)
  • Help adjusting to college life
  • Small support groups so you’re never doing this alone

Personal Support & Community

  • Supportive check‑ins with TRIO staff
  • Connections to counseling, campus resources and student development
  • Cultural events and community‑building activities
  • A space where you belong
  • Support for first-generation and commuter students

Financial Support & Money Skills

  • FAFSA help every year
  • Budgeting and financial literacy workshops
  • Scholarship guidance
  • Help understanding loans and reducing debt

Post Graduation Plan

  • Career exploration and advising
  • Internship and job‑readiness help
  • Graduate and professional school guidance

TRIO SSS supports students by:

  • Reducing academic and financial stress
  • Providing personalized guidance and support
  • Helping you build skills for college and beyond

Who is Eligible?

You may qualify for TRIO Student Support Services if you meet at least one of the following:

  1. First‑Generation Student (Neither parent earned a bachelor’s degree)
  2. Low‑Income Student (Meets federal income guidelines)
  3. Student with a Documented Disability with SU SSC

Additional notes to keep in mind when looking to apply:

  • Must be currently enrolled at Simpson University
  • Academic need is considered
  • Space is limited due to federal funding
    • Priority is given to students who meet multiple eligibility criteria.
    • Meeting eligibility does not guarantee acceptance, but applying is always encouraged.
