BSN Admissions
Our Nursing program welcomes both first-time freshmen and transfer students aiming for the School of Nursing. Whether you’re just beginning your college journey or you’re transferring in, this program provides structured coursework and guidance to prepare you for a competitive application to nursing school.
BSN – INCOMING FRESHMAN
A first-time freshman is a student who will be graduating high school in the academic year before enrolling at Simpson University or has 30 or fewer college semester units.
Timeline
Our typical student is admitted as a freshman, completing 3 semesters of prerequisite and general education courses.
Students typically apply to the School of Nursing during the fall semester of their sophomore year.
Accepted students begin nursing classes the spring of their sophomore year, with completion of the major requiring at least five semesters.
Steps to Apply
- Complete the Simpson University Undergraduate application at Simpsonu.edu/apply
- Send unofficial college transcripts to admissions@simpsonu.edu
- Complete the NursingCAS application
- Request that official transcripts from all institutions attended be sent to NursingCAS
- Upload a personal statement in the Documents section of NursingCAS
- Request 2 letters of recommendation be sent through the NursingCAS recommender portal

Spring 2027
Open date: August 3rd
Priority Deadline: September 19th
Closing Deadline: October 19th
Admission into the Betty M. Dean School of Nursing
- While current Simpson students are given priority, each year slots may be filled by transfer students and readmitted students. Admission into the School of Nursing is competitive and completion of the prerequisite classes and the application does not guarantee acceptance into the major.
- Admission into the nursing major is conditional until all in progress prerequisite classes (those taken during the semester of application) are completed with a grade of “C” or higher.
- The following items must be submitted for review:
- Personal Stagtement
- Overall GPA for all classes
- Cumulative and Prerequisite GPA
- Reference letters (2)
- The School of Nursing does not carry a waitlist. Students who are not accepted into the program are encouraged to work closely with their academic advisor, and then reapply the following application cycle.
- Students must be at least 18 years of age before entering the School of Nursing.
BSN – TRANSFERS
All students seeking admission to the undeclared nursing program and School of Nursing at Simpson University must first be admitted into the university. Students will be accepted into Simpson University based on established admissions criteria. Admission into the university and undeclared nursing program does not guarantee admission into the School of Nursing.
In order to ensure the most qualified candidates are accepted into the program, additional admissions criteria and recommended courses are required.
