In Loving Memory of James M. Grant

It is with great sadness that we share the news that former Simpson University President, Dr. James M. Grant passed away this morning at the age of eighty-four. Jim, as he was affectionately known, served as the 12th and second-longest serving president in Simpson University’s now 105-year history, and was a humble and wise person.
Dr. Grant will be remembered for his robust personality, great sense of humor, and strong leadership, which moved Simpson to unparalleled growth. Under Dr. Grant’s leadership, Simpson became a University; enrollment topped 1,000 students, and the Owen Student Services Center was completed. Dr. Grant was a Christ-centered visionary with a tenacious spirit, and it is on this that all of us at Simpson University now stand, grow, and continue his impactful and enduring work.
While we are saddened by his passing, we are emboldened by his legacy and comforted by the knowledge of his eternal future in our Lord, Jesus Christ. We ask that you join me in praying for his wife, Hazel, and his three sons, Tobin, Matthew, and Jonathan, as they grieve the loss of their remarkable husband and father.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to the Grant Family Scholarship
fund at Simpson University in James’ memory.
